Xinjiang has become a new highland for the agglomeration and development of China's textile and clothing industry

According to the 2023 Xinjiang Cotton Industry Development Forum and Xinjiang Cotton Production and Sales Matchmaking Conference, as of the end of October, there were a total of 3725 textile and clothing enterprises in Xinjiang, an increase of about 5.7 times from 2014. Among them, more than 1350 investment enterprises from other provinces, regions, and cities were attracted to Xinjiang.

"Xinjiang has become a new highland for the agglomeration and development of China's textile and clothing industry," said Liang Yong, Deputy Secretary General of the Autonomous Region People's Government.

The rapid development of Xinjiang's textile and clothing industry is closely related to its unique advantages in raw materials. As an important cotton producing area in China, Xinjiang's cotton production layout has been continuously optimized in recent years, and the quality of cotton has steadily improved. This year, the cotton planting area in Xinjiang is 35.6085 million mu, with 25 major cotton planting counties (cities) accounting for 90% of the total cotton planting area in the region. The number of cotton planting farms in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has been reduced from 103 to 78, and cotton production is further concentrated in advantageous cotton areas.

"Benefiting from the unique advantages of Xinjiang cotton, the cotton textile industry chain is accelerating its extension," said Liang Yong. From 2014 to 2022, the total fixed assets investment in Xinjiang textile and clothing industry was 285.9 billion yuan, with an average annual growth of 20% year on year. The year-on-year growth rate was in the forefront of the growth rate of fixed assets investment in various industries in Xinjiang.

In 2022, the production capacity of yarn, fabric, chemical fiber, and clothing in Xinjiang was 5.11 times, 13 times, 50.8%, and 4.66 times that of 2014. In the first nine months of this year, Xinjiang's yarn production was 1.726 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 14.8%, fabric production was 926 million meters, a year-on-year increase of 41.2%, and chemical fiber production was 619000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%.

It is worth mentioning that polyester fiber manufacturing has achieved a historic breakthrough. The 300000 ton polyester fiber project in Alar City, the First Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has been completed and put into operation by the end of 2022, achieving a breakthrough in zero polyester fiber manufacturing in Xinjiang; The China Thailand 250000 ton polyester short fiber project will also be put into operation by the end of this year. "This marks the realization of a tripartite balance between cotton, viscose fibers, and polyester fibers in Xinjiang's textile raw materials, laying the foundation for the coupled development of Xinjiang's cotton and oil resources, and creating conditions for accelerating the construction of textile and clothing industry clusters and export processing bases in Xinjiang." Liang Yong said.

On March 19th of this year, the first phase project of Xinjiang Yuxin New Materials Co., Ltd. was officially put into operation, with a total investment of 2.9 billion yuan for the construction of 300000 tons of polyester fiber, elasticity, weaving, and public works projects. The company plans to complete projects with an annual output of 1 million tons of polyester fiber, elasticity, weaving, printing and dyeing, and supporting cogeneration within 6 years, bridging the "last mile" from petrochemical to textile and clothing.

It is understood that the Textile Industry Park project of Xinjiang Yuxin New Materials Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive project that integrates polyester, chemical fiber, weaving, and printing and dyeing. This project is the only polyester chemical fiber project under construction in the northwest region. The official landing and production of this project not only fills the gap in polyester chemical fiber in the northwest region, but also connects the last mile from petrochemical to textile and clothing. It improves the complete industrial chain of polyester chemical fiber and textile and clothing in Xinjiang from PX (Urumqi Petrochemical) and PTA (Xinjiang Zhongtai), and attracts a group of downstream enterprises such as Ajing 20000 weaving machines and supporting printing and dyeing comprehensive textile projects with an investment of billions of yuan, Shengze Textile 10000 water jet weaving machine industrial park, etc. to land.
