The decline in China's textile and clothing exports narrowed in August

The latest data released by the China Textile Import and Export Chamber of Commerce on the 7th shows that the decline in China's textile and clothing exports in August narrowed due to factors such as low base and fluctuations in the RMB exchange rate.

The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles stated that in US dollars, textile and clothing exports in August decreased by 10.2% year-on-year, a decrease of 8 percentage points compared to the previous month. Among them, the decline in textile and clothing exports narrowed by 11 and 6 percentage points respectively compared to the previous month, stopping the trend of two consecutive months of decline expansion. From January to August, China's cumulative textile and clothing exports decreased by 10% year-on-year, with textile exports decreasing by 11%, which still has significant room for recovery compared to the 8.9% decline in clothing exports.

China's textile and clothing exports are calculated in RMB: From January to August 2023, the cumulative export of textile and clothing reached 1373.42 billion yuan, a decrease of 3.9% compared to the same period last year. In August, textile and clothing exports amounted to 199.31 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 5.5% and a month on month increase of 2.7%. Among them, textile exports amounted to 83.65 billion yuan, a decrease of 1.5% and a month on month increase of 4.9%. Clothing exports amounted to 115.66 billion yuan, a decrease of 8.2% and a month on month increase of 1.3%.

China's textile and clothing exports are calculated in US dollars: From January to August 2023, the cumulative export of textile and clothing reached 197.21 billion US dollars, a decrease of 10%. Among them, textile exports reached 90.32 billion US dollars, a decrease of 11.2%, and clothing exports reached 106.89 billion US dollars, a decrease of 8.9%. In August, textile and clothing exports reached 27.86 billion US dollars, a decrease of 10.2% and a month on month increase of 2.8%. Among them, textile exports reached 11.69 billion US dollars, a decrease of 6.3% and a month on month increase of 4.8%. Clothing exports reached 16.17 billion US dollars, a decrease of 12.7% and a month on month increase of 1.3%.
