Typical Characteristics of Polypropylene Short Fibers

Polypropylene short fibers are mainly used in polypropylene needle punched carpets, increasing the elasticity, recovery rate, and softness of the carpet, making it more comfortable. PP short fibers have excellent moisture conductivity and quick drying properties, good carding and spinning properties, and can produce soft and moderately resilient fabrics. The fabric is lightweight, has good warmth retention, a delicate hand feel, comfortable to handle, and is acid and alkali resistant. At the same time, it has advantages such as fast melting speed, good filling performance, and good sound insulation and heat insulation performance. PP staple fiber is widely used in garment processing, automotive interior, carpets, tapestries, decorative fabrics, various non-woven fabrics, Geotextile, engineering, wool and other fields.

The physical and mechanical properties of polypropylene short fibers are characterized by high strength (4-6g/denier for short fibers and 5-8g/denier for long fibers), similar wet and dry strength, small specific gravity (0.91), good wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Polypropylene production includes short fibers, filaments, and split film fibers. Polypropylene membrane fibers are made by making polypropylene into a thin film and then stretching the film to split it into a network of original fibers.

Physical characteristics:

1. The longitudinal surface of PP is straight and smooth, with a circular cross-section.

2. The advantage of high-density PP fiber is its light texture, with a density of only 0.91g/cm3. It is a very light variety among ordinary chemical fibers, so PP fibers of the same weight can obtain a higher coverage area than other fibers.

3. Strong elongation polypropylene short fibers have the characteristics of high strength, high elongation, high initial modulus, and good elasticity. So polypropylene is wear-resistant. In addition, the wet strength and dry strength of polypropylene are basically equal, making it an ideal material for making fishing nets and cables.

4. Moisture absorption, dyeing, light weight, and good insulation; Almost non hygroscopic, but the core has a strong hygroscopic ability and has a significant effect on moisture absorption and sweat wicking; Polypropylene has very little hygroscopicity, almost no hygroscopicity, and its hygroscopicity under general atmospheric conditions is close to zero. But it has a core suction that can transport water vapor through the fabric, but does not absorb any of its own water vapor. Poor Pp staining and incomplete chromatography can be compensated for by liquid staining.

5. Acid and alkali resistant PP has good chemical corrosion resistance. In addition to concentrated nitric acid and concentrated caustic soda, PP has good acid and alkali resistance, making it suitable for use as filter and packaging materials.

6. Poor light resistance and thermal stability compared to other polypropylene short fibers, making them prone to aging and ironing. However, adding anti-aging agent in the spinning process can improve the anti-aging performance of the fiber. In addition, polypropylene has good electrical insulation, but it is prone to generating static electricity during processing. Due to the small thermal conductivity and good insulation properties of polypropylene.

7. The strength of high-strength polypropylene filament is second only to polyamide, but its price is only one-third of that of polyamide; The fabric made has stable size, good wear resistance and elasticity, and good chemical stability. However, due to poor thermal stability, sun resistance, and easy aging and brittle damage, anti-aging agents are often added to polypropylene.
