Why is it difficult to dye polypropylene staple fiber?

Polypropylene staple fiber is mainly used for making carpets (including carpet base cloth and pile surface), decorative cloth, furniture cloth, various ropes, strips, fishing nets, oil-absorbent felt, building reinforcement materials, packaging materials and industrial cloth, such as filter cloth, bag cloth, etc. In addition, polypropylene staple fiber is also widely used in clothing. It can be blended with various fibers to make different types of blended fabrics. After knitting, it can be made into shirts, coats, sportswear, socks, etc. The quilt made of polypropylene hollow fiber is light, warm and elastic.

Moisture absorption and dyeing properties of polypropylene staple fiber: light weight and good warmth retention; Almost no moisture absorption, but the wicking ability is very strong, and the effect of moisture absorption and perspiration is obvious; The hygroscopicity of polypropylene fiber is very small, almost no hygroscopicity, and the moisture regain under general atmospheric conditions is close to zero. However, it has the function of wicking and can transmit water vapor through the capillary in the fabric, but it does not have any absorption effect. Polypropylene fiber has poor dyeability and incomplete chromatogram, but it can be made up by the method of original solution coloring.

Polypropylene staple fiber does not contain chemical groups that can combine with dyes in its macromolecular structure, so it is difficult to dye. Generally, the melt coloring method is used to uniformly mix the pigment preparation and polypropylene polymer in the screw extruder, and the colored fiber obtained by melt spinning has high color fastness. The other method is copolymerization or graft copolymerization with acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, vinyl pyridine, etc. to introduce polar groups that can combine with dyes into polymer macromolecules, and then directly dye with conventional methods. In the process of polypropylene fiber production, it is often necessary to add various additives to improve dyeing, light resistance and flame resistance.

Civil use of polypropylene staple fiber: it can be blended with wool, cotton or viscose fiber to make various clothing materials. It can be used to weave all kinds of knitwear, such as hosiery, gloves, knitwear, knitwear, dishwashing cloth, mosquito net cloth, quilt, warm padding, diaper, etc.

Industrial use of polypropylene staple fiber: carpet, fishing net, canvas, hose, concrete reinforcement, industrial fabric, nonwoven fabric, etc. Such as carpet, industrial filter cloth, rope, fishing net, building reinforcement material, oil-absorbing blanket and decorative cloth. In addition, polypropylene membrane fiber can be used as packaging material
