What are the characteristics of polypropylene staple fiber?

The Chinese trade name for synthetic isotactic polypropylene fibers made from propylene, a by-product of petroleum refining. Also known as polypropylene fiber. According to the data, in the future, the downstream industry of polypropylene fiber will enter a new round of prosperity cycle, which will bring about the expansion of market demand for polypropylene fiber.

The Chinese trade name for synthetic isotactic polypropylene fibers made from propylene, a by-product of petroleum refining. Also known as polypropylene fiber. The raw material sources are abundant, the production process is simple, and the product price is relatively lower than other synthetic fibers. The physical and mechanical properties of the fiber are: high strength (4 to 6 g/den for short fibers and 5 to 8 g/den for filament), basically the same wet and dry strength, small specific gravity (0.91), abrasion resistance corrosion, etc. The world's annual output of polypropylene fiber in 1980 has exceeded 1 million tons.

Polypropylene staple fiber uses polypropylene resin as the main raw material, and is made into colored and colorless fluffy fibers with specified denier and length through melt spinning, drafting, crimping, drying, shaping, cutting, packaging and other processes. Because polypropylene staple fibers do not absorb moisture and have low shrinkage, polypropylene fabrics have the characteristics of easy washing and quick drying. Polypropylene has poor heat resistance, and it starts to shrink above 100 °C. The temperature should not be too high during washing and dry cleaning, otherwise it will cause shrinkage, deformation, and even melting. The ironing temperature is 90-100°C, which requires a layer of damp cloth or steam ironing. Polypropylene has excellent resistance to chemicals, moths and molds.

Polypropylene staple fiber has the advantages of high strength, high tenacity, good chemical resistance and antimicrobial resistance and low price, so it is widely used in ropes, fishing nets, safety belts, safety nets, luggage belts, filter cloths, cable sheaths, Papermaking felt and paper reinforcement, polypropylene staple fibers can also be made into geotextiles for civil engineering and water conservancy projects.

In addition, polypropylene cigarette tows can be used as cigarette filters, and polypropylene fiber non-woven fabrics can be used as disposable sanitary products, such as sanitary napkins, surgical gowns, hats, masks, bedding, diaper fabrics, etc.
